Why is it important for managers to be equip with proper problem solving skills?
ReplyDeleteThe job of a manager is constantly faced with the possibility of a problem occurring. These problems can range from routine issues like a worker calling in sick, or a crisis like a lockdown. In order to be efficient with their position, a manager has to possess skills in organization and co-ordination, as well as the ability to define the dilemma, and then generate a solution. Inability to do so results in major troubles for the company, compromising employees, income and productivity, the building itself, and even lives.
Q: Discribe why it is important to have the key makert, contribution, and disctinction in a mission statement. How does a mission statement benifit a business?
ReplyDeleteA:It is important to have a key market, the contribution, and distinction so that the employees know who they are targeting, what they are giving to society, and what makes them different from the rest.
A mission statement benifits a business because it is giving that organization a purpose of existence, shows what they want to accomplish.
Why would a comany want to create a mission statement if it already has a slogan? Describe the key compontents used when writing a mission statement.
ReplyDeleteA- A company creates a mission statement to show what its goals and are internally. A mission staement differentiates from a slogan beacause a slogan is a satement made to the public or consumers. The a mission statement also clearly defines its:
i) Key market- who is the product or service offered to?
ii) Differentiation- what makes your organization different from the competition?
iii) contribution to society- what does your company offer to society? (good value meals, affordable insurance etc)

ReplyDeleteWhy is the role of a manager so important to business and how do they influence employees to do their job tot the best of their ability?
The role of a manager is so important because they are the "good example" for all the employees under them. A manager needs to have good people skills in order to interact with their employees needs and to also interact with their customers. They also need to act like a leader in order lead the workers toward a main goal.
A manager is also important because they need to be able to make decisions and handle problem situations in a mature and appropriate manner.
Managers also have to be aware of meeting the needs of their employees. It's important for a manager to have the respect of their employees so that the employees stay motivated to doing their job correctly.
Overall a manager needs to set a good example for their employees in order for all members of the busuiness to reach their goals.

Q: What managerial skills help a manager to perform their managerial roles?
ReplyDeleteA:
-Technical Skills (Informational Roles)
-Human Skills (Interpersonal Roles/Info.Roles)
-Conceptual Skills (Decisional Roles)
Q: What is the benefit of strategic planning?
ReplyDeleteAlso, Why would a company want to be part of a strategic alliance?
A: A benefit of a strategic plan would be that companies would have the ability to plan for the un expected. eg; any sort of one time accident, if its caused by weather or an employee, or any other source, they will be prepared. Also, a company would want to have a strategic alliance to expand their brand. They could partner with companies across the world, and those companies could help innovate, advertise, or maybe even distribute products.
Organization Theory
ReplyDeleteQ. List the three organizational theories and give an advantage for each one?
A. Scientific- workers get paid more for doing more work
Classical- workers do their jobs according their skills, for maximum output
Human Relations Theory- it creates a social environment and workers will work because they want to and they will be loyal
Answer:
ReplyDeletePart 1: Job satisfaction is how happy an employee is with doing their job. This is important to an organization because there a lot of benefits it provides, like increased productivity, more employee loyalty, a lower turnover rate and less people calling in ‘sick’. However, if employees are not satisfied with their job then chances are they won’t do the tasks given to them, or at least won’t do them well because they do no care, they’ll leave the organization if given the chance and things just won’t get done.
Example: In classes that I enjoy going to because I like the environment and the subject I’m learning about, I try harder, do more work, try to help others and discuss more in class, which contributes to the whole class atmosphere and gives others opportunities to do the same, over all making the class a nicer and more efficient atmosphere. Unfortunately in classes I don’t enjoy I tend to not do work, and not hand it in on time. I don’t help the class progress with discussions but rather hold them back.
Part 2:
Scientific Management theory: This satisfies employees who don’t necessarily want to think about how they are affecting the company, they just want to get to work get paid for their work and leave.
Classical Management: This satisfies the needs of people who enjoy focusing on their current task(s), and getting a lot of work done. It would satisfy the needs of a person who enjoys being skilled in one or two areas and doing those jobs well, instead of being a jack of all trades.
Human Relations: This would satisfy the needs of any ‘social butterfly’ because it focuses on people and how those people feel about their job. It really satisfies the people who thrive on discussing and free-thinking.
I think the most efficient is human relations because it states in that theory that workers are motivated by needs, and satisfaction comes from filling needs. So a organization that makes it a goal to fill employees needs would typically have a high level of job satisfaction among those employees. Especially since not all employees are the same and not all of them want the same thing that management wants. So in a human relations environment the employee could discuss things and would have more freedom and be allowed to solve problems in their own way, overall making their own experience with the company better.
Contemporary Management Theories

Contingency Theory

- organization and it's sub parts must fit organization's environment
- SWOT use to help organization decide on strategy
Total Quality Theory

Theory 2-Kitchen

- trust between workers and management
- organizationg is a community
Q: How can managers use motivation to increase productivity?
ReplyDeleteA: There are different theories as to why people actually come to work, whether it be pay or socail fulfillment. Managers can use this to their adavntage by breaking up large tasks into smaller ones, then pay the employees by the amount of items they produce in a set period of time. This would motivate workers to get the job done in order to increase their pay. Managers can also take an interest in their workers and realise that workers enjoy interacting with eachother. This will motivate the employee to come in to work more and on time. Managers being aware of maslows's hierachy of needs and offer different incentives to workers in order to help them fulfill their needs and make their way up hierarchy.
Q: What are the four main functions of a manager and why are they important to a business?
ReplyDeleteA: Planning - the process of setting goals and determining how to meet them.
Organizing - the process of arranging people, tasks, responiblities and resources
Leading - the process of inspiring and modivating people to do a good job
Controlling - the process of monitoring achievement and taking concrete action
Each function of a manager is crucial to running a succesful business. A business needs to have goals for the future, ways to meet them, and resources to achieve the goals. A manager need to be a leader that can motivate, reward and arrange their staff.
